Title: Argentina - Goat Value Chain Development Programme (PRODECCA) – November 2022
Description: Two hundred and fifty goats, 18 cows and a few chickens make up the productive capital of Gustavo Lizama, a 42-year-old man who farms a field in Paraje Aguada Las Cortaderas, in the province of Neuquén, some 25 kilometers as the crow flies from the oil town of Cutral Co.

Since this is an area where there is no telecommunications signal, through the Goat Value Chain Development Program (PRODECCA), connectivity has improved between Gustavo and his neighbors, thanks to the installation of an antenna and the provision of VHF communication equipment for the producers that make up the local Rural Security Group. This allows them to protect themselves from problems such as cattle rustling or natural predators that attack their animals.

This also allows Gustavo Lizama to earn time to devote to other aspects of the business, such as feeding the orphaned goats, which lost their mother, thus ensuring their development and improving their chances of being sold. It also means he can spend more time with his family, consisting of his wife Yolanda and daughter Lucía.

The aim of the Goat Value Chain Development Programme (PRODECCA), is to help small goat farmers in Argentina increase, enhance and market their production of meat, dairy products and fibre, especially mohair and cashmere.

The programme is expected to benefit a total of 8,000 families across the provinces of Chaco, Formosa, Mendoza, Neuquén and Santiago del Estero, home to about some 60 per cent of the country's goat herds.
