Hamid Hussein Ibrahim, 21, helps his fellow fishermen get ice to store their catch they just brought in from the Obok, on the northern shore of the gulf of Tadjoura, Djibouti. Hamid sells fishes to support his family. In Djibouti, the RPSF project was implemented under the Programme to Reduce Vulnerability in Coastal Fishing Areas (PRAREV), providing agricultural inputs, fishing equipment and solar-powered fridges to fisher families. This enabled them to store their fish and trade with local restaurants. It helped many families get back on their feet following the shock of the pandemic: a rapid assessment showed that 86 per cent of the households that had lost their assets were able to recover their pre-pandemic production level. |
