Title: Jordan - Rural Economic Growth and Employment Project (REGEP) - Recipes for Change -September 2023
Description: Nour Omar Muhammad Banat (left) showing lazzagiyat to chef Carlo Cracco (right) at the restaurant Beit Al-Asilat. Lazzagiyat is a traditional dessert prepared by using a soft dough rolled into thin sheets and baked in a Saj oven (open dome shaped oven). It is then covered in ghee, sugar and various nuts. The restaurant is managed by Nour Omar Muhammad Banat and Hoda Muhammad Issa Balasih. It uses food grown in its garden and Nour's farms and is a source of employment as well. Nour is a jordanian beneficiary from IFAD's Rural Economic Growth and Employment Project (REGEP), she received an innovation grant of 9718€ from the project about a year ago and used it to create a new farm, powered by solar panels and using drip irrigation, currently one of the most efficient water and nutrient delivery system for growing crops. Chef Cracco's visit is part of IFAD's Recipes for Change program, aiming at finding common ground between people and culture accross the world through the food they eat while tackling climate change.
