Title: Uganda – National Oil Palm Project (NOPP) – September 2023
Description: Rose Nakiganda is a 42-year-old mother of four. Her husband is a fisherman and away from home a lot. Before taking part in NOPP, Rose sold mukene fish (silver fish) which she dried on the ground, earning less than $1 per kilo.

Through the training Rose received, she learned to use drying racks. Because the mukene fish is no longer put to dry on the ground, she can now get a higher price for the fish she sells, approximately USD2.30 per kilo.

With the extra income Rose has earned, as well as taking care of her family and paying for school fees, she has been able to set-up a vegetable shop.

In the future she hopes to be able to buy a plot of land on which to build a permanent home for herself and her children.

The main objective of NOPP is to support inclusive rural transformation through investments in the oil palm industry that improve rural livelihoods while safeguarding the environment. The project also supports people with alternative income generation.
