Molly Ajok is a single mother of one child. At one time, she was unable to earn enough to provide for her child and contribute to her family’s finances. Things were tough for her and her family. Things changed for Molly when her community put forward her name to become a household mentor through the IFAD-supported PRELNOR project. The training Molly received taught her to prioritise and plan ahead. While the training she received allowed her to improve her and her family’s life, it allowed Molly to become a mentor for others in the community and help guide them to a better situation. “What we normally do is visit the household and discuss the changes.” Molly tells us about her experience mentoring Fred and his family. The households targeted are those living in the very poorest conditions and the helpless people. “We come, talk, discuss and counsel them and help them to see the future.” The work doesn’t end once the plan is in place. Molly and other mentors like her, return over time to the families to monitor the changes, discuss any issues and provide continued guidance. |
