Title: Nigeria - Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises, Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) – November 2023
Description: Gloria Isitor, aged 38, a former trainee/incubatee and presently an incubator for the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) program, in her cassava farm in Obiogba, Oriowon, Edo State, Nigeria.
Gloria has experienced a remarkable transformation in her cassava farming business since her involvement with the LIFE-ND project. When she joined in May 2021, Gloria's farming activities were limited to a small plot where her house stood. However, with the training and support provided by LIFE-ND, she expanded her farming endeavors significantly.
The project equipped Gloria with essential resources, including start-up capital and high-quality cassava stems, enabling her to cultivate a two-hectare rented plot. This expansion in farming allowed her not only to enhance her production but also drastically improved her family's livelihood. Gloria expressed her newfound success, saying, "Before joining LIFE-ND, I was only able to feed my family one meal per day, sometimes two. I wasn’t feeling fine. Now, I am able to put three meals a day on the table."

LIFE-ND aims to address the growing numbers of restive youth and lack of income-generating activities for women by developing their skills and sustainably enhancing incomes and food security, creating jobs for 25,500 rural young people and women (incubates) in the Niger Delta in southern Nigeria. In particular, LIFE-ND is changing mindsets by helping youth realize agriculture as a good business opportunity. The project will strengthen the capacity of government institutions to work with up to 600 established private-sector actors (incubators).
