Title: Colombia - Puentes/Rural for Young People – November 2023
Description: Camilo Chinchilla and Johny Serrano, are the youth entrepreneurs, makers of the “Cacao de la Sierra” (Cacao from the Sierra) tourist route.

“Johny and me met in the middle of the process with ‘Anfitriones para la Paz’”, says Camilo, a 29-year-old entrepreneur, who has been working for over five years in the hospitality industry with a small hostel he and his family built. Even so, as soon as he saw the opportunity to assist to the “Touristic experiences and circuits design” course, offered by the “Anfitriones para la Paz” (Hosts for Peace) initiative, he took it. “I saw that it could help me both on a working level, and on a personal level… even before I knew that out of all of these we would create this route”.

Camilo and Johny both designed the “Cacao de la Sierra” tourist route: using the Johny’s family cacao plantation, and with the help of the cacao-products small business “Mujer Tayrona” (Tayrona woman), they both created a tourist experience which shows how cacao goes from a tree to a chocolate bar.

Today, “Cacao de la Sierra” offers two daily tours to both national and foreign travelers. Camilo offers tours in English, though Johny is studying a second language so he doesn’t get behind.

The “Anfitriones para la Paz” initiative is part of the “Puentes/Rural for Young People” project, developed by ICCO Cooperation with IFAD’s financial and technical support.
