Title: Malawi - Transforming Agriculture Through Diversification and Entrepreneurship Programme (TRADE) – Recipes for Change – January 2024
Description: Chef Sophie Grigson travelled to Malawi as part of the Recipes for Change campaign. Here she met Jennifer Mayeso and her family. Through TRADE, Jennifer learnt about the importance of having a backyard garden where she plants different types of vegetables in order to ensure food and nutritional security. She also attended cooking demonstrations where they share ideas with community members on food preparation. Together, Jennifer and Sophie, gathered the ingredients and prepared nsima with nkhwani and bonongwe otendera and chicken (maize porridge with local plants and chicken) and khobwe balls (purple cowpeas).

Sophie Grigson is an award-winning TV chef and journalist from the UK, now living in Italy. She currently has a TV series on the Food Network. She has written columns for publications including the Evening Standard, the Sunday Times and The Independent. She is a keen supporter of organic and local food suppliers and is an advocate for decent children's food. She is a patron of the Children's food festival.

Recipes for Change is a series of recipes that allows viewers a taste of someone else’s life. The series shows the cuisines of developing countries, as it connects successful chefs from across the globe with local farmers. Recipes for Change also shows the risks of food insecurity and climate change in a local setting, and it highlights how IFAD is working with farmers to adapt.

The Transforming Agriculture through Diversification and Entrepreneurship (TRADE) Programme, supported by IFAD, promotes climate-smart agriculture and nutrition so that smallholder households can become more resilient to natural shocks and enhance their food and nutrition security.
