Title: | South Sudan - Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF) – November 2023 |
Description: |
Esterina, a 42-year-old widow from Rajaf in Juba County, has been using traditional farming methods passed down from her grandparents, resulting in low yields that barely sustained her family. Everything changed when Esterina received support through IFAD’s Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF). Through RPSF she gained access to high-quality agricultural inputs, post-harvest handling and management technologies. This led to a significant increase in her yields allowing her to feed her family and sell the surplus. Esterina says: "I want to thank IFAD and VSF-G [implementing partner] for giving us seeds for vegetables and also for training us on how to plant vegetable seeds properly. I am able to produce vegetables for sell and feeding my family. When I sell the vegetable, I use the money to buy meat and fish. This has improved my health and the one of my children." Looking ahead Esterina, hopes to get an irrigation system that could enable her have continuous production and supply of vegetable and crops throughout the year. The RPSF was implemented during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It helped small-scale producers improve their agricultural productivity by ensuring quick access to inputs, such as certified climate-resilient seeds and farming equipment. Not only did the support help recover from the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but it actually increased their production and productivity. |
