Suzan a 32-year-old farmer in Magwi County, with five children struggled with low harvest despite her fertile land as she had been using traditional farming methods. But things changed when she was selected to benefit from the Building Back Better initiative (BBI). Through BBI Suzan received high quality seeds, training and technical assistance. By using these new methods, she was able to significantly increase her crop yields and income. With the additional income she bought iron sheets for her roof, purchased motorized equipment for preparing groundnut paste and supported her family. The “Building Back Better” project established sustainable localized supply systems based on public-private-producer partnerships tailored to each country’s agricultural, political, and social contexts for high yielding climate resilient seed, and developed a network of village-based advisers to disseminate high-yielding climate-smart seed technology, improving access to high-yielding, climate-resilient seeds of a range of nutritious crops. |
