Mee Cher, 28, in front of her kitchen in Pangsabath Village. Mee Cher is a farmer and mother of three who attends the Farmer Nutrition School (FNS). She grows cardamon, maize and other vegetables and also relies on NTFP for her livelihood. FNS are an essential part of the Agriculture for Nutrition Programme (AFN) and aim at improving household diets by strengthening women’s knowledge of nutrition and agriculture and enhancing their ability to cultivate, preserve and prepare a variety of nutritious foods. Participants of the farmer nutrition school in Pangsabath Village are trained in three different modules. In the first modules participants learn about nutrition and daily life cooking in general. In the second module they learn about the causes of malnutrition. While the third module is about animal husbandry and other agriculture techniques. Mee Cher proudly completed all the three modules of the school, and she was given seeds by the project to grow vegetables in her home garden. She uses the vegetables grown in her garden to complement the protein and the rice for her and her children’s meals. |
