In November 2022 the school received a grant through the Partnerships for Irrigation and Commercialization of Smallholder Agriculture (PICSA) project. The aim of the grant was to establish a school garden with and using the vegetables to prepare lunch for the 55 students at the primary school. The PICSA project also provided cooking equipment, material, and trainings on cooking skills to the school staff. Moreover, the project set up a clean water scheme in the school, including a water tank, pipes and taps to allow the children to clean their hands before eating as well as cleaning their teeth and keeping general hygiene. “The children now wash their hands with soap and brush their teeth every morning, improving their overall hygiene. This means that they get sick less often and they attend school more regularly” says Bounthun, the principal of the school. “This program is very helpful and has change the student’s life” he adds. |
