Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Reynaldo Bedoya Marca, 58, is one of the producers of the Camelid Producers' Association of Turco, a municipality located in the Altiplano region of Oruro in Bolivia. Like him, many people and families base their economy on raising llamas and alpacas, mainly because they then do different types of trade with these animals. Among the main ones is the commercialization of their fiber, their meat to make preserves, charque and consume it as beef, and they are also useful for the sale of live specimens. In the photo, Bedoya proudly shows off garments made from alpaca fiber. "With mechanical shearing, you take advantage of it for the industry and you should always have a shearing system in your living room".

In his quest to improve income, Reynaldo has also become involved in breeding alpacas, facing the challenges of the dry climate. As part of the local association, Reynaldo has led initiatives to improve management conditions, health, and protection against climate change, emphasizing the need for technical and financial support from government entities to implement projects benefiting the region's livestock farmers.
