Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: The family of Reynaldo Bedoya Marca, 58 years old, is historically dedicated to raising camelid cattle. He currently lives in the community of Cosapa, which belongs to the municipality of Turco in Oruro, Bolivia. The Sajama snow-capped mountain, which is 6,542 m above sea level, is one of the natural guardians of these places where llamas, alpacas, sheep, but also animals that are considered predators such as foxes and pumas cohabit. This is why it is important to build sheds for the camelids to rest, which were made possible thanks to the support of the Pro-Camelids program financed by IFAD. "At the moment, as an association, we are 26 beneficiaries, who have received eight sheds and 10 mobile corrals. The mobile corrals are a partnership between two families," said Bedoya.

Within the initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development and Lands through Pro-Camélidos, there is a firm commitment from the Government to continuously strengthen the camelid livestock producer sector. This commitment materializes through strategic investments aimed at boosting both the productive and reproductive indices of llamas and alpacas. Additionally, efforts are made to enhance the transformation of products and by-products derived from camelid fiber and meat, thus contributing to the diversification and improvement of the livestock industry in this specific area.
