Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Tiburcio Marca Aguilar is very proud to own a male llama thampulli that was "Junior Champion" at the XII Version of the Expoferia Nacional de Camelidos 2022, a contest held in Chuquisaca, Bolivia. Over the past few years, Tiburcio and his family's llamas and alpacas have excelled in similar events. "Before, the cattle cost so low, let's say 200, 300 bolivianos. And after that, it has been going up, until currently, they are reaching 2000, 1,500, the champions are reaching 5000, and they win in the fairs, they are already reaching 8, 9 and 10."

Currently, their whole life revolves around the well-being of their animals; if they get sick or if they are in good health, it all affects the mood and family economy. That's why they make sure their animals don't lack water or forage. The first is easy to obtain for this particular family, as a river, the Huilapata, runs through their property located in the Cosapa community in the high-altitude municipality of Turco in Bolivia. The second, forage, depends a lot on the season, but they always find ways to keep their animals well-fed.

In addition, care has increased since they were beneficiaries, as a family, of the construction of a shed, with the support of Pro-Camélidos and IFAD financing. Since they started having their llamas and alpacas sleep and rest there, the Marca family sleeps more peacefully, and their fear that their livestock will be attacked by pumas or foxes is diminishing.
