Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Tiburcio Marca looks after his llama and alpaca herd every day with great dedication. He is one of the beneficiaries of the Pro-Camelids program financed by IFAD. With the project, his family benefited from the construction of a shed to shelter their animals from the cold and from the attack of "predators" such as foxes and pumas of the altiplano. Tiburcio lives on the Tholatia ranch, located in the Cosapa community in the Orureño municipality of Turco in Bolivia. "Our animals are going to sleep warm, well protected, we are happy".

Pro-Camélidos stands as a strategic counterbalance to the challenges faced by camelid producers, determinedly addressing fundamental obstacles in primary production. These obstacles range from low productivity, quality, and performance to inappropriate livestock management, and limited availability of pasture and water, exacerbated by the deterioration of natural resources and climate change. Simultaneously, in the realm of transformation and marketing, the program aims to solve critical issues such as the lack of technical assistance, high production costs, weaknesses in market access, insufficient access to financial services, and deficiencies in the relationships between various actors in the production complex.
