Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: The inhabitants of the Cosapa community have a privileged view of the Sajama snow-capped mountain. This is the case of Reynaldo Bedoya who, since he was born, witnessed the splendor of the landscape and also had llamas and alpacas nearby. Today, at 58 years of age, he is a producer focused on the optimal breeding of these animals. In the photo he is with two thampulli llamas, which are characterized by being more fibrous, and three huacaya alpacas, with normal characteristics. "Before the climate was fine, it was easy, that is, they could be outdoors, but now it has changed. These sheds have helped them a bit," says Bedoya with respect to the sheds financed by IFAD and implemented and built with the support of the Pro-Camelid program in this area of the Oruro altiplano in the municipality of Turco, Bolivia.

As part of the initiatives of the program in the primary production sphere, over 10,500 productive infrastructures designed to withstand climate changes have been implemented. These structures serve various functions, ranging from protecting livestock from adverse weather conditions to facilitating fertilization, cultivation, and forage storage. They also focus on the management and conservation of native meadows and wetlands, contributing to improving water availability.
