Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Tiburcio Marca Aguilar takes his alpacas and llamas out to graze one morning in October 2023. He lives in the Cosapa community of the Turco municipality in the department of Oruro, Bolivia. The infrastructure seen in the background of this picture is one of the sheds financed by IFAD and channeled for construction by the Pro-Camelids program. Reynaldo participated in this program and benefited from the shed for his animals. "We have organized ourselves as producers for the counterpart of this shed, let's say Pro-camelids has put 70, as beneficiaries we had put 30".

Native to Cosapa and residing in his estate Tholatía, Tiburcio shares his life between his family, consisting of his wife and five children, and the breeding of camelid livestock. Since the age of 13, he has dedicated himself to this work, inheriting the legacy of his older brothers.

In the context of the Pro-Camélidos program initiatives for primary production, more than 10,500 climate-resilient productive infrastructures have been implemented, addressing various needs. These infrastructures serve various functions, from protecting livestock against adverse weather effects to facilitating fertilization, cultivation, and forage storage, as well as the management and conservation of native meadows and wetlands, also contributing to improving water availability.
