Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: The dining room of the Marca Chambi family looks like a museum. On its walls are displayed dozens of cockades and bands that were won by their animals, llamas and alpacas, for possessing different qualities such as fiber quality or height and length of the strands of their fibers. In general, the red awards correspond to animals that won their competitions, those that obtained the second place, received yellow badges, the green color is reserved for those who were in third place and the blue for the fourth place. "I believe that once I stop participating, my children will also continue on this path," says Tiburcio Marca, who lives in the Cosapa community of the Oruro municipality of Turco in Oruro, Bolivia.

At the XII National Camelid Expo-Fair 2022, an event aimed at promoting and strengthening camelid livestock production, four animals from Tiburcio were awarded. The initiative, coordinated between Pro-Camélidos, the National Association of Camelid Producers (ANAPCA), the municipal autonomous government of Sucre, and other stakeholders, not only sought to highlight the benefits of products, by-products, and derivatives of camelid fiber, meat, and skin but also served as a conducive setting for the exchange of experiences and knowledge. During the Expo-Fair, producers and processors of domestic camelid livestock proudly presented their outstanding specimens, covering various breeds of llamas and alpacas. This multifaceted gathering, supported by an extensive network of government, academic, and productive entities, underscores the collective commitment to the promotion and dissemination of camelid livestock, consolidating an event that transcends borders at both the national and international levels.
