Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: The attire of a leader. Veronica Calle Chuquichambi has a shy expression at first, but then she is determined. She proudly wears the clothes and colors that distinguish her from the rest of the women in the Chojñacota community. She wears a green skirt of impeccable tone, almost new, as well as her aguayo with red, black, green and other less showy colors that make an important contrast. On her head she wears a lead hat made of sheep fiber with the inscription Totora Marka (Totora Place) on a green headband. On top of a white sheep fiber sweater, made by her mother, she wears a brown alpaca fiber shawl woven by her own hands, the same hands she now crosses to pose for the camera.

She was one of the beneficiaries of the IFAD-funded Pro-Camelid program, which helped her and her family build a shed to ensure the safety of their camelid livestock, which were previously exposed to the harsh cold of the Altiplano in Bolivia and were also potential prey for predators such as foxes and pumas. With the implementation of the sheds, the living conditions of these animals improved considerably and also directly benefited the economy of the people who raise them for the purpose of selling their fibre or meat.
