Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: The sheds to shelter camelid livestock are part of the solutions promoted by the Pro-Camélidos project. In the Chojñacota community of the Aparu ayllu of the San Pedro de Totora municipality in Oruro, Bolivia, Verónica Calle Chuquichambi, a 23-year-old leader, was one of the beneficiaries of the sheds. In October 2023, she told how she and her family benefited from the shed that was built on her land to protect the animals from the cold and possible rains, and to protect them from puma attacks, which are frequent in this Andean part of the country. "And then, with the shed, this [puma attack] has diminished, and the young are no longer attacked so much".

Like Verónica in Chojñacota, there are people in 46 other municipalities in the Altiplano region of Bolivia who benefit from this type of IFAD-financed projects. These are families who also face the same problems with their llamas and alpacas: the cold and the potential attack of predators. To participate in the program, it is necessary to be part of the municipalities covered and provide a counterpart of 30% in cash of the total amount to be financed. In addition, it is required to have current legal status (non-profit), designate legal representatives, have a NIT (National Tax Identification Number), maintain a bank account and comply with the Program's Operations Manual (POM).
