Title: Colombia - Puentes/Rural for Young People – November 2023
Description: Johny Serrano is a 22-year-old entrepreneur and the designer of the “Cacao de la Sierra” (Cacao from the Sierra) tourist route, San Rafael, Magdalena department.

Johny is a former student of the “Touristic experiences and circuits design” course, offered by the “Anfitriones para la Paz” (Hosts for Peace) initiative and part of the “Puentes/Rural for Young People'' project, developed by ICCO Cooperation in partnership with IFAD. This training allowed him to create a tourist route which guides visitors through the growing, fermenting, and drying of cacao beans.

This tour has been successfully operating for a year, with the help of other members of the community such as the small business “Mujer Tayrona” (Tayrona woman), which provides the experience with cacao-based products like chocolate. Johny has started to think big. “I want to build cabins, I want to improve the tour, I want to have more things to offer our visitors”, he says, when talking about what future for his business he dreams about. “I want to create my own small business in the hospitality industry, with partnerships, and keep growing. The goal is to keep growing by bringing our neighbours; make communal tourism”,

Johny has a message for all those young entrepreneurs like himself, who live in rural areas: “If you persevere, little by little things will start to work out”.
