The “Anfitriones para la Paz” (Hosts for Peace) is a mobile school, which carries out classes in food and cooking on a food truck targeting young adults in rural areas of Colombia. Leydis Odor and Eduard Serrano are former students of the “Magdalena’s regional cuisine” course. Cristina Arrieta, national coordinator for “Anfitriones para la Paz”, says that young people in Colombia, especially those who live in rural areas, face several barriers: “barriers related to access to quality education; barriers related to access to employment and business opportunities; and there’s also other factors related to climate change, access to markets, and their exposure to the armed conflict”. One of the ways in which “Anfitriones para la Paz” has overcome these barriers is with their mobile school, which allows them to teach food and cooking in far-off territories. “Anfitriones para la paz” is an initiative part of the “Puentes/Rural for Young People” project, developed by ICCO Cooperation in Colombia, Bolivia, and Honduras, and with IFAD’s financial and technical support. |
