Johny Serrano is a 22-year-old entrepreneur and former student of the “Touristic experiences and circuits design” course, offered by the “Anfitriones para la Paz” initiative (Hosts for Peace) and part of the “Puentes/Rural for Young People” project. Johny turned his family’s cacao plantation into “Cacao de la Sierra” (Cacao from the Sierra), a tourist route and attraction in which several people from his community take part: other former students of the courses offered by “Anfitriones para la Paz”, like his partner Camilo Chinchilla, who offers tours in English; or even members of his family, like his brother Eduard Serrano, who took the “Magdalena’s regional cuisine” course and who prepares the meals for the visitors. Johny managed all this thanks to the help of the “Touristic experiences and circuits design” course, which allowed him to design a business by integrating agriculture, sustainable tourism, and cacao-based products. “For me, ‘Anfitriones para la Paz’ helped me grow both in knowledge, and as a person”, he says. “These are courses which are necessary for young people. Here there are a lot of young people who just need a little push in order to become entrepreneurs in their own sectors”. |
