Mahmadyusuf Jurakhonov attended the village gathering on the day the stranger from IFAD showed up with a photographer and videographer. He listened intently to what the Village Organization Chief was saying, which was, essentially, “we are so grateful to the project and to IFAD for what we have in our village today”. Totally unaware of what the English words spelled out on his t-shirt, Mahmadyusuf felt super proud when he learned that he was wearing and advertising the same message – ‘BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE’. The Community-based Agriculture Support Project (CASP) stimulates inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction in rural Tajikistan. Its activities help communities and dehkan (smallholder) family farmers access productive infrastructure and services, leading to sustainable agricultural production, equitable income-generating opportunities, and improved living standards. CASP works with village organizations (VOs) to develop community-driven action plans that define their own improvement initiatives. Village-level participation in decision making is critical to the success of these plans and helps establish a sense of community ownership and cohesion. |
