Title: Tanzania - Reversing Land Degradation trends and increasing Food Security in degraded ecosystems of semi-arid areas of Tanzania (LDFS) – July 2023
Description: Christina, a small-scale farmer, and the Chairperson of the Maziwani group, uses a clean cook stove to make her meals. This innovative technology offers a win-win situation for Christina and the environment.

By utilizing a clean cookstove, Christina significantly reduces the amount of firewood needed for cooking. This translates to a positive impact on the environment by minimizing tree cutting, a crucial step in preserving precious resources.

The benefits extend beyond environmental protection. Clean cookstoves produce less smoke, leading to a healthier cooking experience for Christina and her family. Reduced smoke inhalation minimizes health risks and creates a more pleasant atmosphere in the kitchen.

Famers in the area are encouraged to adopt the use of clean cook stoves, to help reduce tree cutting in the area thus protecting the environment.

Reversing Land Degradation trends and increasing Food Security in degraded ecosystems of semi-arid areas of central Tanzania (LDFS) is one of 12 national projects under the Integrated Approach Pilot program on Fostering Sustainability and Resilience for Food Security in Sub-Saharan Africa (IAPFS). The project focuses on geographic areas with high levels of poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition of children under 5 years of age, land degradation and average annual rainfall. It also centres on areas where there may be conflict among communities related to access to and use of crop, grass and forest land and water resources.
