Title: Argentina - Goat Value Chain Development Programme (PRODECCA) – November 2022
Description: Lack of water for production is one of the main problems faced by goat producers in the area of Ojo de Agua, a place about 60 kilometers from the town of Piedra del Águila, in the province of Neuquén, in Patagonia. Through the Goat Value Chain Development Programme (PRODECCA), works to improve their production is being supported. The programme provided investments in the farms of 10 producer families, for the construction of sheds or corrals, fencing and water access works. But it also provided tools for the entire community, such as equipment for better livestock management and communication equipment, essential to improve connectivity among them in an area with practically no telecommunications signal.

Within this framework, rural producers Hugo Francisco Díaz, Leticia Norma Ñancu and Miguel Ángel López took part in the construction of a 10-meter-deep water well that will ensure better access to this resource for the animals raised by one of the members of the community, producer Oscar Horacio Caniupan.

The aim of the Goat Value Chain Development Programme (PRODECCA), is to help small goat farmers in Argentina increase, enhance and market their production of meat, dairy products and fibre, especially mohair and cashmere.

The programme is expected to benefit a total of 8,000 families across the provinces of Chaco, Formosa, Mendoza, Neuquén and Santiago del Estero, home to about some 60 per cent of the country's goat herds.
