Mohinav Village Organization (VO) Chief, Halima Jumaeva, 54 years old, has a very hands-on approach to working with and for members of her community in the Dusti district of southwestern Tajikistan’s Khatlon Region. Here, she demonstrates how to separate peanuts (groundnuts) from the shells after processing them in the mechanical shelling machine provided by CASP. The new machine greatly benefits the women's income generating group for peanut production, saving them countless hours of shelling. Halima has plants to use income generated from the agricultural machinery services to help the women even more by introducing branded packaging and establishing market links to boost their sales and income generation. The Community-based Agriculture Support Project (CASP) stimulates inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction in rural Tajikistan. Its activities help communities and dehkan (smallholder) family farmers access productive infrastructure and services, leading to sustainable agricultural production, equitable income-generating opportunities, and improved living standards. CASP works with village organizations (VOs) to develop community-driven action plans that define their own improvement initiatives. Village-level participation in decision making is critical to the success of these plans and helps establish a sense of community ownership and cohesion. |
