Title: Peru - Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF): AGRIdigitalización – August 2022
Description: ACOPAGRO is an agricultural cooperative whose main plant is located in the district of Juanjuí. It brings together more than 2,000 small farmers from 4 different provinces in the San Martín region: Mariscal Cáceres, Huallaga, Bellavista, and Picota. Its main activity is the promotion of cocoa cultivation, but thanks to the AGRIDigitalization project, it now sells its own chocolates through electronic markets. In addition, it has initiated an important work of improvement in the cultivation of Tahiti lime in the plots of its member producers in order to reach the quality standards demanded by the market.

One of the problems they face in improving the quality of this product has to do with the color and amount of juice contained in each of the limes. Although the “ideal” lime should be green in color and large in size, the effects of climate change have affected growing areas, causing high temperatures and low humidity in the soil to reduce the amount of juice in the limes and the peel to turn yellow.

The AGRIdigitalization project is an IFAD initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ organizations. It had a business intervention model which included training services, webpage updating, documents and videos translation, and positioning of products on digital platforms outside of traditional commerce. The purpose was to develop and strengthen a support model for organizations to access new markets through e-commerce.
