Title: Peru - Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF): AGRIdigitalización – August 2022
Description: Victor Bovadilla and Palmira Rodríguez have been married for less than five years, but have been working the land together for more than eight. They have both dedicated their entire lives to agriculture, and have cocoa, oranges, wood, bananas and Tahiti lime crops on their farms. The arrival of the pandemic hit their work hard, as not only were they unable to market their products, but they were also unable to go out to work on their plots and many of their products had to go to waste. “The pandemic has affected us because we couldn't sell or go out to buy inputs for our farms,” says Victor. For her part, Palmira recalls that another difficulty was that the engineers specializing in the improvement of their limes had to stop helping them during the lockdown period: “we couldn't sell, and the technicians couldn't come to give us advice, so I didn't know when we would be able to sell again.”

As part of the AGRIDigitalization project, the agricultural cooperative ACOPAGRO made a commitment with Victor, a member producer, to provide them with the necessary technical assistance to improve the work related to the cultivation of Tahiti lime, as they were able to sign an agreement that establishes the intention to purchase by the digital company Producers Market, once ACOPAGRO meets the requirements and demands of the market in relation to the quantity and quality of the product.

The AGRIdigitalization project is an IFAD initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ organizations. It had a business intervention model which included training services, webpage updating, documents and videos translation, and positioning of products on digital platforms outside of traditional commerce. The purpose was to develop and strengthen a support model for organizations to access new markets through e-commerce.
