One of the main problems faced by small Tahiti lime farmers in the area is related to the size and color of the product. Yellow limes are rejected by several of the local markets, as they are considered “dry”, with little juice and have small spots that could indicate the presence of fungi or pests in the soil. On the other hand, green and larger limes are usually considered “ideal” for commercialization at the local and international level. Tahiti lime growers are still undergoing a test and technical work period to improve the product and reach the necessary standards for sale. The AGRIdigitalization project is an IFAD initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ organizations. It had a business intervention model which included training services, webpage updating, documents and videos translation, and positioning of products on digital platforms outside of traditional commerce. The purpose was to develop and strengthen a support model for organizations to access new markets through e-commerce. |
