Title: Peru - Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF): AGRIdigitalización – August 2022
Description: Sanitary restrictions resulting from the global pandemic caused by Covid-19 affected the productivity of farmers in the region and their ability to maintain the basic family food basket. In this regard, one of the most important achievements of the agricultural cooperative Allima Cacao, within the framework of the AGRIDigitalization project, was the diversification of cocoa products to boost farmers' traditional income.

Macambo, for instance, is a bean very similar to cocoa from which they have developed products such as macho chocolates (50% cocoa and 50% macambo), macambo or macambo with coffee, as well as roasted macambo and macambo flour. Currently, they are about to launch a chocolate-coated macambo gravel product to which they plan to incorporate a type of edible ant from the area, in order to provide protein and nutrients to help combat anemia.

The AGRIdigitalization project is an IFAD initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ organizations. It had a business intervention model which included training services, webpage updating, documents and videos translation, and positioning of products on digital platforms outside of traditional commerce. The purpose was to develop and strengthen a support model for organizations to access new markets through e-commerce.
