Title: Peru - Rural Poor Stimulus Facility (RPSF): AGRIdigitalización – August 2022
Description: Carlos Angulo Gonzáles, 41, is the general manager of Allima Cacao, an agricultural cooperative established in 2019, which brings together 400 families of small farmers in the Amazonian area of Chazuta, one hour from the province of Tarapoto, in the Peruvian region of San Martín. During the crisis unleashed by the global Covid-19 pandemic, Allima Cacao was a beneficiary of the AGRIDigitalization project, an initiative that connected the cooperative with a local e-commerce platform through which they not only began selling cocoa beans and concentrated cocoa pulp, but also motivated workers to develop new cocoa products such as macho, macambo and macambo with coffee chocolates, as well as roasted macambo and macambo flour.

“Quality is not an act, it's a habit” is one of the phrases that can be read on the wall in the central area of the cooperative and defines the way Allima Cacao and its associated farmers work. It is a joint, dedicated, continuous and innovative work that represents the commitment of farmers to change their way of production in order to adapt to new market models, and the cooperative's management in order to increase sales and benefit all the farming families in the area.

The AGRIdigitalization project is an IFAD initiative aimed at strengthening farmers’ organizations. It had a business intervention model which included training services, webpage updating, documents and videos translation, and positioning of products on digital platforms outside of traditional commerce. The purpose was to develop and strengthen a support model for organizations to access new markets through e-commerce.
