Title: Tanzania - Reversing Land Degradation trends and increasing Food Security in degraded ecosystems of semi-arid areas of Tanzania (LDFS) – July 2023
Description: Ariel view captures the essence of harvest day for Pemba Island's seaweed farmers, many of whom are beneficiaries of the LDSF project. Their boats, laden with seaweed, paint the scene with vibrant color as they return from the deep waters

Most farmers go out to the ocean at the crack of dawn, when there is low tide and return to the shores by mid-morning to maximise their harvest efficiency. By mid-morning, they return to shore, their efforts contributing to the island's thriving seaweed industry.

With the LDSF project's support, these farmers are not only harvesting valuable crops but also cultivating a sustainable future for themselves and their communities.

Reversing Land Degradation Trends and Increasing Food Security in Degraded Ecosystems of Semi-arid Areas of Central Tanzania (LDFS) is one of 12 national projects under the Integrated Approach Pilot program on Fostering Sustainability and Resilience for Food Security in Sub-Saharan Africa (IAPFS). The project focuses on geographic areas with high levels of poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition of children under 5 years of age, as well as land degradation and average annual rainfall. Additionally, it addresses potential conflicts among communities related to access to and use of crop, grass, forest land, and water resources.
