A number of farmers carry out field practice by pollinating cocoa at the research and development facility Mars Cocoa Academy, in Tarengge, East Luwu, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Research activities at MARS Cocoa Academi produce several cocoa varieties that are more resistant to pests and weather changes. The superior variety of seeds has been distributed to cocoa farmers who are suppliers of cocoa beans to PT MARS. In the development sector, the main activity at MARS Cacao Academy is conducting cocoa cultivation training for farmer groups. The training, which includes land preparation, planting seeds on sloping land, clearing the land, fertilizing, and developing the cocoa business, aims to improve the quality of cocoa and ultimately improve the welfare of cocoa farmers. Alumni from the training are expected to be able to continue and disseminate new knowledge about cocoa cultivation to their respective communities and other regions. These alumni received the title of cocoa doctor. |
