With his status as a Civil Servant, Syamsuddin (41) has a steady income - even guaranteed pension money - which is enough to support his family. However, he is still a farmer at heart, so he never wastes his garden in North Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Every day before and after returning from work, Syamsuddin tends the garden which is planted with several superior varieties of cocoa. Pruning, fertilizing, sanitizing and cleaning became his daily routine. His hard work in the garden was not in vain, he was awarded twice in a row as the best in Southeast Sulawesi. "Now many people come to my garden to study. There are farmers, university students, scholars and researchers. I intend this garden to be a place of learning for mutual prosperity," said Syamsuddin, who is a Cocoa Doctor alumnus assisted by ReadSi-MARS Cocoa Academy. |
