Title: Tanzania - Reversing Land Degradation trends and increasing Food Security in degraded ecosystems of semi-arid areas of Tanzania (LDFS) – July 2023
Description: Pemba Island's seaweed farmers return with their harvest, ready for the next stage. Here, they meticulously sort and spread the seaweed across drying racks lining the shores. These racks were constructed by the aggregation center managed by Juma, a local entrepreneur who supports the community by purchasing and storing seaweed.

This vital facility serves both LDFS project participants and independent farmers. Under the warm sun, the seaweed transforms, its journey from ocean depths to valuable product nearing completion.

Reversing Land Degradation Trends and Increasing Food Security in Degraded Ecosystems of Semi-arid Areas of Central Tanzania (LDFS) is one of 12 national projects under the Integrated Approach Pilot program on Fostering Sustainability and Resilience for Food Security in Sub-Saharan Africa (IAPFS). The project focuses on geographic areas with high levels of poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition of children under 5 years of age, as well as land degradation and average annual rainfall. Additionally, it addresses potential conflicts among communities related to access to and use of crop, grass, forest land, and water resources.
