Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Chojñacota community members participate in the inauguration of a water pumping system using solar panels. This place belongs to the municipality of San Pedro de Totora in the department of Oruro, Bolivia. The construction and commissioning of this system was made possible thanks to the efforts of Pro-Camélidos with financial support from IFAD. The lack of water on his farm led René Soto Vadillo to seek solutions, including bringing water from long distances. Although he considered moving to the city due to the shortage, he opted to stay, relying on the solidarity of neighbors to obtain the liquid element. "Where there is water there is life. There were comments that the Pro-Camelidos project was going to be executed in this community. So, I came to ask the native authority. They accepted me, I have been part of that project," says René Soto Vadillo, 43, one of the direct beneficiaries.

These systems use sustainable and environmentally friendly technology, since they use pumps that work with the energy from solar panels to extract subway water for the benefit of families with the potential to produce camelid cattle.
