Yudi Agustian, the eldest of two children, returned home after having worked for three years in the restaurant business in Malaysia. His parents are farmers and have cows. Upon returning to Subang, a friend of his who is a facilitator for the Young Entrepreneurship and Employment Support Services programme (YESS) project, suggested he apply for support. The 25-year-old, who had no previous knowledge about farming and agriculture, took part in a three-month internship at Brahman Sejahtera Cooperative in Subang Regency, West Java province, where he learned about various aspects of the cattle industry. The Cooperative covers different activities of the cattle industry, from cow breeding to making fertiliser from cow dung. The internship has raised Yudi’s interest in the cattle industry business. He hopes to add more cows to the ones his parents already own, if he has the capital. He dreams of having 100 cows. "It is just fun to see many cows," he says. Yudi one of the 38,000 young rural people to be positively impacted by YESS. YESS aims to create opportunities for rural youths to build their livelihoods through rural entrepreneurship or employment. It seeks to develop a new generation of young farmers and agripreneurs while contributing to sustainable rural transformation through people-oriented investment. |
