Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Roberta Rivera Mollo is 33 years old and hails from the municipality of Turco in the department of Oruro, Bolivia. She has two children, aged 13 and 11. Her father was one of the founders of the Association of Agro-livestock Producers of Turco (APAT), and she is following in his footsteps. Currently, she is involved in the processing of llama meat to produce products like "charque" in the plant owned by the members of the association. With the support of Pro-Camélidos, funded by FIDA, they were able to upgrade their machinery. One of her dreams is to sell "charque," dried llama meat, in other countries. "My hope is to export 'charque,'" she says. Upon their arrival, the establishment was barely set up, with virtually no infrastructure except for a house at the current location. Over time, they received support, especially through the Pro-Camélidos project, which contributed to the creation of the current infrastructure. Although initially limited, considerable effort, primarily led by her father, has been invested in developing and maintaining these facilities. Currently, the responsibility has transitioned to the next generation, with Roberta following the right steps to do what she does best and what brings economic prosperity to her and all the families in the community.
