Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Maribel Zenayda Marca Quenaya is a resident of the municipality of Turco in the department of Oruro, Bolivia. She is 29 years old and is the second member based on the membership card of her mother, Eusebia Quenaya Mamani, in the Association of Agro-livestock Producers of Turco (APAT). Zenayda is, therefore, part of the group of members who contribute a monthly fee to keep the llama meat processing plant for value-added products operational. She mentions that they contribute approximately 250 Bolivianos, around 37 US dollars at the current exchange rate, per month for this purpose. She aspires to expand the communal business by exporting charque to countries such as Argentina and Brazil, leveraging the opportunities provided by Pro-Camelids.

The involvement of women in the camelid complex was underestimated, and the inclusion of young people was hindered by migration, limiting generational knowledge. Additionally, a weak organizational structure was identified. Faced with these challenges, Pro-Camelids is implementing a long-term strategy focused on the sustainability of associative enterprises. The goal is to improve market access and strengthen the organization, aiming for a positive change in these social and community dynamics.
