Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description:
Part of the production process of llama jerky involves drying meat, which can last between three and five days. For this procedure, the members of the Association of Agro-Livestock Producers of Turco (APAT) have nine well-distributed solar tents inside their plant located in the center of the municipality of Turco, Oruro, Bolivia. The area is characterized by its residents consistently engaging in the breeding of camelid livestock for both domestic consumption and commercial purposes, including the sale of llamas and alpacas, as well as value-added products such as llama jerky or sausages. With the support of Pro-Camelids and the financial assistance from FIDA, they were able to complete the setup of their plant with quality equipment for the transformation of their raw materials into market-ready products. Daily, the members of APAT gather at the Llama Meat Processing Plant to carry out their work. Currently focused on the regional and national market, one of their medium-term goals is for their products to transcend Bolivian borders and reach other countries.
