Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: In several regions of Bolivia, the preparation of charque (dehydrated llama meat) is done manually with the help of wooden mortars. However, the Asociación de Productores Agroganaderos de Turco (APAT) has opted for mechanization to improve efficiency and optimize llama meat processing times. In the crushing room of APAT's Llama Meat Processing Plant, three crushing machines are used for this purpose. The procedure involves a person, with precautions, activating the machine, and as if working with a sewing machine, starting the process, allowing the technology to do the heavy work. These actions are possible thanks to the financial support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Pro-Camelids program. Those working in this room must be extremely cautious, as the machinery operates at high speed and exerts considerable power to achieve finely shredded products.

Component 2 of the Pro-Camelidos project is focused on Transformation and Commercialization, aims to strengthen the families of economic/productive organizations in order to create favorable conditions for private investment. The focus is on improving transformation processes, fostering the creation of added value and facilitating competitive access to markets. This component comprises three essential subcomponents: Market Development, Business Plans and Knowledge Management in Transformation and Commercialization.
