Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: In some parts of Bolivia, the llama meat is manually pounded into charque (dehydrated). People use wooden mortars to achieve their goal. In the case of the Asociación de Productores Agroganaderos de Turco (APAT), they are betting on mechanization to achieve better results and thus be able to optimize time. That is why in the marbling, or pounding, room of APAT's llama meat processing plant they have three pounding machines. The procedure is simple to describe: a person sits down, with all the necessary care, activates the machine and, as if he were with a cloth and a sewing machine, starts the process and lets the technology do the hard work. This type of action is possible thanks to the financial support of FIDA and the Pro-Camelids program. The people who work in this room must be very careful, as it is machinery that works at high speed and uses a lot of power to achieve the most shredded products possible. The main objective of Component 2 of Pro-Camelidos, focused on Transformation and Commercialization, is to strengthen the families of economic/productive organizations in order to generate conditions that promote private investments. The focus is on improving transformation processes, promoting the creation of added value and facilitating competitive access to markets. This component comprises three essential subcomponents: Market Development, Business Plans and Knowledge Management in Transformation and Commercialization
