Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: In the meat cutting room, Agustina Choque (56), Roberta Rivera (33) and Zenayda Marca (29) are in charge of boning llama meat and preparing different types of cuts for the variety of products they make as members of the Turco Association of Agro-Livestock Producers (APAT) in its processing plant. Each of them has a close and committed relationship with what they do inside this plant. At one time in their lives they did this type of work for a daily lunch on an ordinary day. However, today they work in a whole food transformation process that requires the greatest commitment and compliance with quality standards, as well as occupational hygiene.

Thanks to support from Pro-Camelidos and financing from IFAD, APAT members were able to purchase modern equipment for the production of llama charque (dry meat), sausages and mortadelas, products that are marketed in different parts of Bolivia. At one point they were able to produce for the subsidy granted by the Bolivian government to specific groups such as mothers. Today, they want to recover this type of contract to make it more sustainable and expand their production and product distribution network nationwide.
