Title: Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023
Description: Roberta Rivera is a native of the municipality of Turco, in the department of Oruro, Bolivia. She is 33 years old, has a partner and two children, ages 11 and 13. In addition to being a mother, her day-to-day life is marked by her work at the llama meat processing plant of the Turco Association of Agro-Livestock Producers (APAT). Roberta, along with other producer members, benefited from the Pro-Camelids program, with financial support from IFAD and the Government of Bolivia, to obtain better equipment and to refurbish their workplace. After living in Oruro, she returned to Turco to take advantage of market opportunities. Now, she and her family have found their niche in charque production. Their dream is to export this dehydrated meat, but, as producers, they face bureaucratic challenges that Pro-Camelidos is helping them overcome.
Pro-Camelidos' objective is focused on strengthening the families of economic/productive organizations, creating conditions conducive to fostering private investment. This strengthening is aimed at improving transformation processes, thus generating greater value added and facilitating competitive access to markets. This component encompasses several subcomponents, including market development, business plan development, and knowledge management in processing and trade.With this holistic strategy, Pro-Camelidos seeks to promote the sustainable growth and competitiveness of these organizations, contributing to the economic and social development of the communities involved.
