Title: | Bolivia - Integral Strengthening Programme for the Camelid Value Chain in the Bolivian High Plateau (Pro-Camélidos) - October 2023 |
Description: |
One of Tiburcio Marca Aguilar's daily tasks is to improve the conditions for his camelid cattle to develop in the best possible way. Tiburcio, in front of the contemplative Sajama snow-capped mountain, cleans waterlogged areas on his property. When a space has micro-flooding, the water does not circulate as it should and the animals lose space to feed. Tiburcio's Tholatia ranch, located in Cosapa, municipality of Turco, in Oruro, has a stream called Huilapata that flows through his land and facilitates the breeding of his llamas and alpacas. He is one of the "blessed" individuals with this type of resource because in the region, most livestock farmers do not have the ease of having a watercourse even close to their properties. The distance from Tiburcio's house, where he lives with his wife and five children, to the stream's edge does not exceed 200 meters. While there are times when water is abundant and others when you can cross this space with barely wet feet, he and his family are very happy. |
